Another Ike?!?!

So today is a big important day at school that we've been working toward for a while: the Math TAKS day (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills-the important state test for those non-Texan readers). It rained all evening and all morning, but I got up and went about my day as usual getting Alli and myself ready. I went into the garage to put my purse in the car and "slosh", I stepped in water. I turned on the light and there was a couple inches of standing water in the garage. I called for Greg to help me move some of our storage stuff out of the water, then in my early-morning stupor, I decided to open the garage door. More water rushed in. We moved a few things out of the water, then I knew I would have to get on the road to make it to work ASAP. I headed through the standing water in our parking lot, then I made it to Richmond (the road we live on). There was no way I was going to make it, even in a Yukon...

After watching the news this morning, there were some parts of town just a few miles north of us that got 11 inches of rain in less than 24 hours, so all the bayous and retention ponds around here are over capacity.

Then I checked my voicemail and found that school had been cancelled!! What a year!! Murphy's law is sure in effect at DCMS...after missing more than a week for Ike flooding back in the fall, my principal mysteriously resigning just a few weeks ago, the bus driver scandal that made it to the news (no comments from me...), and now cancelling school on the day of the TAKS!!! What else could happen?!?! Here are a few pics of our neighborhood this morning...

Lake Richmond (as it's fondly known when it rains)

Imagine going out to your parked car in the morning and finding this...

People who were brave (notice the cars parked up on the median)

The gated entrance to our townhouse

Allison's first flood :)

Our parking lot

How you entertain your kids when there's no school...
And yes I know the sewer was washing around with all the flood water too, so we cleaned and sanatized ASAP. I'm a responsible mommy :)

Not the brighest crayon in the box

Apparently at at underpass of Beltway 8 and I10, the water got at least 15 feet deep. The most interesting picture was shown on the news: an ambulance had driven into the water overnight (because it was dark and they didn't know how deep it was) and got stranded. Everyone got out, but they were showing as the water receded you could see the top of the ambulance as it started to be visible. They had dive teams going down to see if there was anyone in the cars that had been covered. Crazy, crazy...

Holy crap! That's insane! And up here all we have had is dark clouds but barely any rain...you should send some up our way. Oh and I totally LOVE that Allison has her first flood pictures..so have to scrapbook that!!

Whoa! That would definitely scare me! I hope you didn't have too many things damaged!
